VomVom, you are absolutely right. Sad part is people don't really want to learn, they just want to follow the ignorant. The old saying "the blind leading the blind" fits well.

There are so many idiotic and ignorant comments about eminent domain that it is not even funny. Why don't you morons go Google it and find out.

This is an abuse of eminent domain. Eminent domain should only be used for public projects, such as the right-of-way for a road.

No chuckwthompson, Eminent Domain was created because it is sometimes necessary to prevent greedy, selfish or bigotted people from sabotaging the public good.

BIG OIL & GAS love us
Excellent comment chuckwthompson from Charlotte.
"Pipeline route is safe" ... so says BIG OIL
"Cigarette smoking is safe" ... so says BIG TOBACCO
Who needs science and Doctors when you can get advice from BIG GREED industry shills & trolls?
Congressional testimony admitting: - pipeline will INCREASE domestic fuel prices because of plans to EXPORT fuel - pipeline threatens water supplies - "technology got ahead of regulatory oversight" - need for "updated safety regulations" because tarsands oil is "more dangerous" ... - Transcanada has been "threatening landowners" to force them to allow pipeline
BIG OIL & GAS love us

This is not what Eminent Domain is designed to used for. It was not designed to allow a foreign country to facilitate a private company.
It was designed to allow government to access land for the greater good for its constituents, not to line the pockets of a foreign company with a private company with no ties to that community.

Like everything...seems the cons are for eminent domain.....but were against it several years ago....but were for it before then when W & pals used it to confiscate land for the Texas Rangers stadium in Arlington...
Boy they are a fickle lot.

Kinda mixed on this one. I think the pipeline would help our fuel issues, but I don't like the thought that they can come in and take your property anytime they feel like it.

Too much use of eminent domain. Never in favor or land-owner.

From Justice Sandra Day O'Connor's dissent in the Kelo case of 2005:
"Any property may now be taken for the benefit of another private party, but the fallout from this decision will not be random. The beneficiaries are likely to be those citizens with disproportionate influence and power in the political process, including large corporations and development firms."
The chickens are coming home to roost.

Lots of companies have various pipelines across the border from Mexico and Canada too. Eminent domain makes it possible to build these pipelines...for the greater good. It also makes it possible for us to have city water, city and rural electricity, phone service (land lines and cell) refineries, gasoline and a better way of life. Thank God the law permits eminent domain. We'd still be burning kerosene for lights and driving horses which may seem OK to the bloggers below but heck, I like having indoor toilets and clean safe water and stuff.

Unfortunately it still happens, and usually benefits the local government or tax base.
The most recent example here is that several years ago a car dealership was forced to move to make room for the new BestBuy corporate hq.

Anyone that has electric, phone, natural gas, etc. service on their property, has an easement for utilities furnished by public and private companies, none owned by the federal or state governments, at least not yet. Just food for thought.

Most property owners have utility easements on their property, what makes this case so special? To create a twenty foot wide easement for a pipeline across the property and cry "stealing my land" is over the top and just fodder for the "grenade the US energy industry" movement.
I signed off on a utility easement on my property 8 years ago, it didn't hurt at all, wouldn't even know it was there, everything is buried underneath. Nice try to portray TransCanada as an evil empire.
