Gas hike revives fears of $5 mark

San Jose Mercury News -- Gas prices skyrocketed an astonishing 23 cents in a week in California, to $4.14 a gallon, and are on a sharp rise across the country, setting off loud grumbling Thursday from motorists and prompting President Barack Obama to fire back at critics who blame him.

The current California price is the highest it has been at this time of year, and analysts predict $4.50-or even $5-a-gallon gas by Memorial Day. Some Bay Area stations raised prices by 15 cents a gallon between Wednesday and Thursday, and more increases are likely in the next few days.

While tensions with Iran sent crude oil costs to over $107 a barrel --the highest since May --refinery shutdowns on the West Coast are causing a particular problem in California, where the biggest increases have occurred

That's (thankfully) a far cry from $5, though diesel has hit above the $4.00 mark.

Basically you are arguing for nationalizing the oil companies.

Oh right -- if the govt didn't exist, then gas would be $1.50/gal because companies could drill wherever they want. I'm not buying that argument.

With Big oil selling fuel and natural gas on the world market for higher prices, there will be NO price reduction for the cost of fuel or natural gas IN the US. Barry will support natural gas and oil production for sale on the world market to pay for his ‘spending gone wild’ addiction. The US ‘oil and natural gas resources’ belong to the citizens of this country and are to be used by those same citizens! Speculators, manipulators and the banks continue to unfairly and unjustly make the driving public pay higher prices at the pump for their benefit. Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle is, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Consider using ‘other’ forms of transportation to help lower your cost. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! 12/22/2012!

I say let it go up!! Let it get to the $5 mark or even higher! Then maybe all of you that voted for this hope and change will see there is no such thing. You all blamed Bush and said he had the highest prices on his watch, but what if your guy, Nobama earns that title? What will you say then? Is it still the GOP fault or will you still blame it on Bush? We have a problem here and I see the current administration wants to put a bandaid on it instead of tackling the problems head on!! Maybe next year we might see a different world and gas prices might get to that $10 mark per gallon some of you boast sarcastically about. America needs to open there eyes to the problems that are accruing or soon to be here! Other countries want us to die and disappear. They don't like our freedom and our way of life. I pray everynight that what is going to happen, to America, will not happen!!
